Coexistence & Conservation through Community, Research, Education & Welfare

The elephantCREW’s vision is of an Africa in which elephants and humans coexist in a balanced environment.

Where the welfare of large elephant populations, expanding human communities and pressurized ecosystems are better understood and where the Ambassador Herd and the rest of the eleCREW Team, play a unique and active role in promoting coexistence and conservation through their Community, Research, Education and Welfare programs.

Context…

The human population in Africa is predicted to double by 2050.

1.

At current rates of decline, the African elephant could become extinct in 30 years.

2.

There are now few, if any, wild areas unaffected by humans anywhere in the world. The increasing human population causes habitat loss and fragmentation.

3.

Competition for water and food can have tragic consequences for elephants and subsistence communities. This is the reality of human-elephant conflict (HEC).

4.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in the KAZA Trans-frontier Conservation Area, the last great range of the African elephant.

5.

Within this ‘mega-park’ human and elephant populations are both increasing and consequently, elephants are yet again in crisis.

6.

The future for elephants in Africa is no longer just about conservation, it is now very much about coexistence as well.
